Open Markets Institute celebrates Khan’s confirmation and looks forward to the expertise she will bring to stopping monopolies at the FTC

WASHINGTON – The Senate confirmed Columbia Law School professor and former Open Markets Institute legal director, Lina Khan, to the Federal Trade Commission with a 69-28 bipartisan vote today.

In response, Open Markets’ Executive Director Barry Lynn released the following statement:

“All of us at Open Markets Institute are truly thrilled by today’s Senate vote to confirm Lina Khan to serve as a commissioner on the Federal Trade Commission.

“This is a very personal issue for us. Lina is a dear friend, close colleague, and true inspiration, and someone who helped see this organization and this team through often challenging and sometimes difficult times.

“Today is also an important day for the American people. No one is better prepared to protect American democracy and liberty against the power of today’s monopolists than Lina Khan. Lina understands the nature of the crisis and how to use existing law and authority to master it. And Lina brings to this great task a wisdom shared by few. Congratulations Lina.”
