Open Markets Co-Sponsors Food, Inc. 2 Premiere & Impact Campaign

Food, Inc. 2 will premiere in Washington, DC on April 9th; The film will be available to stream on April 12th

WASHINGTON - Open Markets Institute has partnered with the media company Participant and partners, to cosponsor the Washington, DC premiere of the documentary film sequel, Food, Inc. 2, on April 9th, and an impact campaign to improve our food system by taking on corporate power and the harmful practices that power enables.

"A shrinking number of giant multinational corporations wield tremendous power over the foods we grow, buy, and consume in America. Addressing their monopoly power is a critical piece of the puzzle to improve public health, empower workers, and lessen our food system's environmental impact. Participant and their partners are helping move this debate forward with Food, Inc. 2." Claire Kelloway, Open Markets Institute, Food Program Manager

“Participant’s campaign for Food, Inc. changed the way that people think about food and supported the first major piece of food safety legislation since the 1930s, using film as the entry point to raise awareness, and change hearts and minds,” said David Linde, Participant CEO. “We are proud to work with Open Markets Institute, Coalition of Immokalee Workers and FoodFight USA to continue the critical work of galvanizing change in the food industry.”

More about the film: Fifteen years ago, the groundbreaking Oscar®-nominated documentary Food, Inc. ignited a cultural conversation about the multinational corporations that control our food system at enormous cost to our planet, workforce and health. In the well-timed sequel, Food, Inc. 2, comes “back for seconds” to reveal how corporate consolidation has gone unchecked by the government, leaving us with a highly efficient yet shockingly vulnerable food system dedicated only toward increasing profits. Seeking solutions, the film introduces innovative farmers, food producers, workers’ rights activists and legislators fighting to create a more sustainable future.
