Over 70 Public Interest Orgs Urge European Commission to Reject Google’s AdTech Remedies
Structural measures are essential to safeguard Europe’s democracy, uphold its sovereignty, and protect citizens and publishers from Google’s ongoing abuse of dominance
Brussels - More than 70 press freedom organisations, businesses, experts, and think tanks, including the Open Markets Institute, have joined together in a letter urging the European Commission to reject Google’s proposed remedies in the adtech antitrust case.
In the letter, the groups call for divestments as the only effective means to curb Google’s anti-competitive conduct and conflict of interest in digital advertising. They point out that behavioural remedies have repeatedly failed to address Google and other tech giants' monopoly power.
In the adtech sector, the groups stress, structural measures are essential to safeguard Europe’s democracy, uphold its sovereignty, and protect citizens and publishers from Google’s ongoing abuse of dominance.

The Open Markets Institute has repeatedly urged antitrust authorities in Europe and the U.S. to apply real, effective fixes to Google’s monopolies over online advertising technologies and search. Find more of our work below:
